Vasily is a Russian-born winger currently playing for Leinster in Ireland. He has been doing well, getting a call up for Ireland Schools and Ireland U19 last year. Russia cannot afford to let a talent like this get away. Are any of the pro clubs in Russia aware of him?
Profile from Leinster:
Club: UCD RFC
School: Blackrock College
Date of Birth: 24/07/1987
Official Leinster Caps:
Leinster ‘A’ Caps:
Ireland Under-19 Caps: 1
Leinster Under-19 Schools Caps: 3
Ireland Schools Caps: 3 (3 tries)
Leinster Schools Caps: 4
He scored a couple of tries for Ireland Schools against England:

If he is that good he’d better stay in Ireland. Rugby culture there is much much more higher than in Russia. I think there’s no need for him to come over here because Russian clubs can not afford such level of competitiveness as he may have in Britain/Ireland. Hopefully he will want to play for Russian squad at international level.11.09.2006 в 03:28 #71320
I agree with what Kir said. Russian rugby would benefit more if Vasily goes on to play professionally in Ireland, and gets called up for the Russian national team. The current level of Russian pro clubs is too low for him.
So the real question here is whether the coaches and managers of the Russian national team are aware of him!
They should hurry, because if he gets selected and plays for Ireland A or the Irish national team, he will not be eligible to play for Russia any more, as far as I know about the IRB rules. I may be mistaken though.
By the way, it looks like Vasily started playing rugby in Russia before moving to Ireland, according to a picture from his personal website:11.09.2006 в 16:52 #71321
If he stays in Ireland he will probably end up playing for them, though. It is my understanding that he has served two years of the three year residency period and will be eligible for Ireland in 2007.
Perhaps it would be better for him if he played in France, then? Maybe he could link up with Koulemine at Agen?12.09.2006 в 02:48 #71322

Well, only Vasily himsef and maybe his family know what’s better for him. 😀
We can keep guessing here, but we don’t know his motivation or where his priorities are at this point. If he still identifies himself as a Russian in spirit, he may decline an invitation from the Irish national team and go play for Russia. On the other hand, I got the impression from his website that he leads the life of a typical Irish teenage student now, and maybe he considers himself to be Irish now. Then of course he would rather play for Ireland.
Even though we would love to see him on the Russian national team, in any case I wish him the best of luck in his rugby career.25.06.2007 в 05:35 #71323
Nice, my metrics. Mayhaps I can be good too. 8) Well, I’ll find out on Tuesday. 😉27.11.2008 в 05:29 #71324
According to FIRA and Planet-Rugby forums, Vasily was officially selected for the Russian team training assembly in South Africa. I haven’t see any official info on this. Can anyone confirm?27.11.2008 в 10:49 #71325
The information has been published on Krasnoyarsk-based resource russianrugby.ru (http://www.russianrugby.ru/news.php?Id=787). This resource is not official but is very close to Krasny Yar rugby club and usually gets the information from the official communication addressed to Krasny Yar (note similar text on Krasny Yar web site http://www.yar-rugby.ru/news.php?id=283). It is generally reliable.08.04.2009 в 07:15 #71326
