«Former New Zealand rugby union star Jonah Lomu is reportedly set to become the next big name to sign with the Gold Coast Titans.
The Gold Coast Bulletin has reported that Lomu will meet with club officials on Tuesday and could become the franchise’s newest recruit if the two parties can agree to terms.
Lomu will also be required to pass a stringent medical test having suffered a number of serious injuries and illnesses over the past few years — not least the kidney disease that required a life-saving transplant.
The 73-Test rugby veteran made a remarkable recovery from his kidney transplant to play for North Harbour before an ankle injury while playing in Wales halted his progress once again.
Lomu missed out on a lucrative Super 14 contract for next season, all but ruling him out of contention for the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France, and will be looking at a much smaller financial reward if he switches to league.
The newspaper reported that Lomu would be offered a one-year deal with the Titans with the option to renew in 2008.»
